Adopt Billy

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Billy is originally a Romanian dog who has lived most of its life in Sweden. His previous home became very difficult when the family could no longer take care of him. Billy had to hop between different relatives as a temporary solution, but eventually the situation became unsustainable and Hundhjälpen was contacted. Billy is now a Hundhjälpen-dog and is in a foster home outside Uppsala – waiting for his new family / home. When Billy arrived at the foster home, he was a bit confused – he has had to move around a lot. In the foster home, there are already two dogs, and the larger one has quickly become a safe haven and someone to look up to. Billy has also become friends and a good friend with a neighbor’s dog – also a larger, kind dog. In his previous life, he had lived as a lone dog. He now also lives with cats, and it works well. Jourmatte is of course popular, and Billy is very attached to her. He loves to be out and explore the woods and meadows where he can relax and just enjoy himself. We are sure that in the summer, he will love to bask on his own grass mat! Billy is a gentle and loving Rüfsetufs who is searching for the world’s kindest people, preferably active pensioners who have plenty of time for him and enjoy being out on forest paths. Billy wants a lot of closeness and to know that he is important – life has been so tumultuous. He can live as a lone dog or with a stable and kind dog – preferably in a slightly larger home. Cat-friendly. The home should be in a quiet location and in close proximity to pleasant walking areas. If there are children, they should be older. The household should have a slightly more laid-back lifestyle.

About Billy

What life with Billy looks like

Billy is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Hundhjälpen in Stockholm.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Billy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Billy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundhjälpen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Billy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Billy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundhjälpen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Billy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Billy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundhjälpen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Billy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
