He adapts quickly to new situations yet remains independent and clearly communicates what he wants. His energy seems inexhaustible: he’s lively, loud, and bursting with enthusiasm. At the same time, Birdy is exceptionally social. He seeks out contact, enjoys being around others, and shows great interest in his environment. Yet he can also be cheeky and playful without losing his endearing charm. He learns rapidly, observes carefully, and seizes every opportunity to keep growing. His courage and curiosity drive him forward—even if sometimes he reacts with a bit of timidity. With his colorful plumage, agile demeanor, and strong personality, Birdy is a truly distinctive bird—a keen, intelligent, and ever-active companion.

About Birdy

What life with Birdy looks like

Birdy is a young adult bird waiting at Tierheim beider Basel in Basel.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Paperwork, vet checks and transport rules differ by species and by country. Ask the shelter what is included and what you will need to arrange before you commit.

Frequently asked

Adopting Birdy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Birdy?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim beider Basel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Birdy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Birdy if I live in another country?: Sometimes. Whether a bird can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Tierheim beider Basel what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Birdy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: What a bird comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Tierheim beider Basel directly what is included and what Birdy still needs.
What happens if Birdy isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim beider Basel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Birdy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
