Bommel

Unknown

Bommel is a cockatiel with a remarkable presence and a finely balanced temperament, blending curiosity with caution. With his vibrant plumage, he brings life and brightness to any room, while his watchful gaze remains ever alert, carefully observing everything around him. He’s nimble, skillful, and astonishingly clever. When he feels safe, he fully reveals his lively, cheeky, and playful side—bursting with energy. Then he becomes a little whirlwind of movement, curiosity, and gentle courage, enriching his surroundings with cautious yet determined explorations. At the same time, Bommel often remains rather reserved and sometimes even uncertain. In new situations, he first observes from a distance—vigilant and shy—before slowly approaching and gradually gaining confidence. His gentle, affectionate nature makes him especially charming: he’s not an impulsive daredevil but rather a sensitive soul who builds trust with great care. When he’s comfortable, his cheerful singing fills the room, showcasing his lively and spirited side. Bommel is a small, courageous observer with a big heart.

DE·Show original

About Bommel

What life with Bommel looks like

Bommel is a large adult bird waiting at Tierheim beider Basel in Basel.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Paperwork, vet checks and transport rules differ by species and by country. Ask the shelter what is included and what you will need to arrange before you commit.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bommel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bommel?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim beider Basel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bommel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bommel if I live in another country?: Sometimes. Whether a bird can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Tierheim beider Basel what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Bommel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: What a bird comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Tierheim beider Basel directly what is included and what Bommel still needs.
What happens if Bommel isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim beider Basel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bommel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
