Black Pearl

Black Pearl was rehomed to Leipzig as the second dog in May 2016, lots of luck little meerkat lady... .................................................................................................................................................................................... My name is Black Pearl. I am female, spayed, microchipped and born in 2008. I am about 45cm tall. I have been waiting for a new home since March 2016. This is what my caregivers say about me: Black Pearl was handed over to us due to the previous owner's illness. At first she was shy, but thawed out quickly. As soon as someone kneels down, she comes cautiously and can be easily touched and cuddled. That's simply a dream for Pearl, her fur is so soft and silky, you might think a British Shorthair cat had mixed in. Her character is also soft and silky, she is exceptionally gentle with people of all ages. She gets along with male dogs, female dogs would need to be tested, although she has not shown any problems with other animals so far. The same applies to other animals. She is loving and cuddly, also quite well trained on a leash, and our smallest walkers like Pearl. Her environmental safety still needs work, sometimes she shows herself to be jumpy. She is agile, adventurous and eager to move, once she has overcome her shyness. Of course she enjoys every petting and after getting used to it, she will obey quiet times. After getting used to it, she is watchful, can be left alone, is a good passenger and with enough off-leash time, she is house-trained. Black Pearl is a perfect beginner dog who will fit in beautifully in any new environment.

About Black Pearl

What life with Black Pearl looks like

Black Pearl is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Black Pearl, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Black Pearl?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Black Pearl on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Black Pearl if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Black Pearl already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Black Pearl isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Black Pearl and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
