Adopt BLACKY

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Estimated birth date: March 2018 Short info: friendly, affectionate, lively and curious, family+, teenagers+, cats+ The two siblings Blacky and Browni, born in March 2018, were brought to Kata's shelter in mid-March 2026. A man arrived with a van, in which the two dogs were tied up. The man reported that his father had died two years ago and that the dogs belonged to him. He further explained that the two dogs had been kept together in a kennel, where the spayed Browni was free, while the unspayed Blacky was tied up in the same kennel. The son had been "taking care" of the dogs for two years, meaning he fed them, but now he no longer wanted them and wanted to get rid of them, which is actually a blessing for the two. We got to know Blacky with the noticeable "facial mask" personally in April 2026. He was initially a bit excited when we took him out of the kennel. But he handled everything super well and even walked quite nicely on the leash. He really enjoyed sniffing around and showed himself to be affectionate and attentive despite the excitement. Especially happy was he to meet Browni outside :-). However, the two will certainly be rehomed separately. Blacky has not yet been tested for compatibility with other animals besides Browni. This will be done soon, but we don't expect any difficulties due to his friendly nature. During the meeting with the test cat, he showed himself to be friendly and cautious, so that with time and patience, he could probably be accustomed to living with house cats. The lovable Blacky would fit into any household with dog experience. He really wants to experience what it's like to be loved and cared for and to have a normal, appropriate dog life. Perhaps someone will discover this lovely dog and give him a future. Blacky is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and comes with an EU pet passport to his new home. Would you like to give Blacky a happy life? Then we look forward to your message! It is best to use the self-assessment form here (or alternatively the contact form).

About BLACKY

What life with BLACKY looks like

BLACKY is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting BLACKY, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about BLACKY?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw BLACKY on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt BLACKY if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is BLACKY already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if BLACKY isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know BLACKY and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
