Blacky

Male · 3 years

Black and was adopted when he was a puppy, a creation without problems, without knowing what it was like to be in a kennel enclosure or to feel the cold. We thought he would never have to go through a kennel enclosure, but we were wrong... Black and returned to us, now an adult, with fears and fewer possibilities. His family left him, because apparently he had developed behavioral problems, which turned out to be false. Blacky has arrived with a heavy backpack, the one of being a returned dog due to supposed behavioral issues, plus his fears. His first weeks were very tough; he sought the company of the volunteers but at the same time feared us. He urinated on himself every time a hand touched him during his first month. We don't know what he lived through during his years in that house, but what we do know is that they left us with a completely broken dog. It's been some time since Blacky arrived at the animal rescue association. After much love and patience, we have discovered his true personality. Blacky is a super affectionate dog, but he no longer fears our hands; now he trusts that we won't hurt him. He's a super manipulable dog, despite his fears, he never gave us a bad gesture! Moreover, he's super playful, both with people and with other dogs. He's still learning to walk on a leash, but he's learning at giant steps. After everything that Blacky has gone through, he deserves to have a true happy ending, one that lasts a lifetime.

ES·Show original

About Blacky

What life with Blacky looks like

Blacky is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Protectora Malaga in Málaga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Trauma recovery - needs patient owner due to past behavioral concerns and fear-based reactions

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Blacky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Blacky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Malaga handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Blacky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Blacky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Malaga will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Blacky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Blacky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Malaga early rather than rehoming privately; they know Blacky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
