Blacky

Labrador Retriever · Male · 1 year

I am Blacky, a young, lively German Shepherd-Mix male dog with lots of energy and a big heart! I am looking for experienced people who will give me a loving home. I am: a willing learner and well-socialized dog who enjoys snuggling with my trusted people. At the same time, I need my space and do not want to be pushed at first. I am athletic and active, and my new people should be able to guide my temperament into the right paths with a leash and training. In the animal shelter, I am not so friendly with other dogs at first – but the environment is of course different. Additionally, I am still young and can certainly learn a lot more. With a nice female dog, I could surely also be well-socialized and then have some fun. I can already do some basic commands and love working with my people. Unfortunately, I have hip problems (HD), so my new people should be careful not to overexert me. Too many stairs are not ideal for me, but I love swimming even more! I wish for a dog-experienced family, especially one familiar with German Shepherds, who knows my needs and is ready to continue working with me – because a little training is still needed. And I look forward to mental stimulation. Love combined with good training would be the perfect combination for me. Children in the household should already be in a more mature age (at least 14 years old). Would you like to meet me? Then contact my animal shelter staff or fill out the request form further down on the website. I look forward to you! Please note that several visits will be necessary for a meet, as I need some time to warm up.

About Blacky

What life with Blacky looks like

Blacky is a large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Hip dysplasia (HD) - needs limited stair climbing, swimming recommended for exercise

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Blacky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Blacky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Blacky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Blacky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Blacky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Blacky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Blacky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
