Adopt Bleids

Male · Senior · 14 years

Alfa and Bleida's story touched many. Both dogs were taken from their apartment by the police, as the dog had literally "eaten" a rat. Bleida was in very bad condition, with all his skin covered in hard ticks; Alfa was slightly less severe, but with a heavily torn coat. Now, as you can see, not only Alfa but also Bleids has recovered. We not only treated the dog for ticks - but also the thin body gained muscle and flesh again (when he first arrived at the shelter, he weighed 24 kg, now he is 29.2 kg). Bleids was already able to climb stairs up and down on his own, go for walks, and play a game of chase with Alfa. As days passed and Bleids physically felt better, he began to show more of his personality - probably a pretty serious guy back in his youth and prime. When it seemed that we had fully recovered the dog and now "life would begin," everything started to slowly change. First, we had to stop taking Bleida for walks with volunteers, because the dog started to react aggressively toward strangers nearby. Then, he no longer allowed all his companions near him. Now, Bleids communicates only with a few of his companions, showing others: hands off me. Also, age-related problems are gradually becoming more pronounced. His feces fall uncontrollably, sometimes even while lying down. His paws start to betray him - there are days when it is difficult to get up on his own. Fortunately, the next day he is already bouncing around like a goat. In short, thank you to everyone who felt sympathy and supported Bleida's recovery - we all did our maximum for his sake. At the same time, we all now have to start accepting the idea: Bleida's life is coming to an end.

Read original (lv)

About Bleids

What life with Bleids looks like

Bleids is a senior dog waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bleids, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bleids?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bleids on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bleids if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bleids already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bleids isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bleids and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
