Blu

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

In the animal shelter since: October 2026 Estimated age: born approx. May 2026 Estimated adult shoulder height: approx. 40 – 59 cm Estimated adult weight: 20 – 35 kg Earliest departure: 04.11. Meet Blu right here in the video! Young dog Blu is eager to discover so much – will you give him a home? This friendly furry companion was found hungry and homeless on the side of the road in Romania. He was presumably abandoned there. Fortunately, Blu could be rescued and taken in by our animal shelter. For more information on how the dogs come to the shelter and answers to general questions, see our animal welfare FAQ. So far, Blu shows the bright and playful nature typical of a puppy. He explores his little world with curiosity and gathers new experiences every day. He wags his tail when people enter the kennel, runs up to them, and lets himself be petted anywhere. His character will continue to develop over the coming weeks and months – right now, only the beginnings of his personality can be seen. If you would like more information about this furry companion, feel free to write to our adoption team. Puppies should not have to grow up in an animal shelter. That is why we urgently seek a loving home or an experienced foster family for this little one – a place where he can discover the world, build trust, and simply be a puppy. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding everyday life with a young dog can be: once house-training is done, the "wild adolescence" often begins – full of energy, uncertainty, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that human and dog take together – with highs, lows, and plenty of learning moments. We wish for this furry companion people with patience, empathy, and perseverance – and with an understanding that rescue dogs often come with some history. How exactly they react to their new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: those who adopt rather than buy not only give an animal a second chance, but also actively choose against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion at their side. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adopting, first read through the . All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered before departure (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are additionally tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, feel free to write to our adoption team.

About Blu

What life with Blu looks like

Blu is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Blu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Blu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Blu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Blu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Blu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Blu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Blu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
