Blue

Labrador Retriever · Male · Young · 3 years

Blue was rehomed by us just under a year ago and has now unfortunately returned to the animal shelter. A year earlier, he had been secured by the veterinary office along with other dogs and thus found his way to us. Blue is a young male dog full of energy for 10! He is very bored in the animal shelter. He is under-stimulated and under-challenged, and we really hope that he can quickly leave the animal shelter again. Blue showed himself to be very eager to learn in his home. He can fetch food bags, knows many commands, is housebroken and leashed, and is an overall loyal companion. Agility was also done with him. In general, Blue is a kind guy who likes to have contact with his humans and enjoys their presence. The stress of the animal shelter clearly puts him more on edge than at home. Channeling his blue energy into the right directions is a challenging but great task that is worth it. He accepts rules well and is absolutely cooperative. Only during dog encounters, especially with male dogs, and when things don't happen fast enough for him, he can become slightly upset. Strangers are not always completely comfortable for him, but he tolerates a lot, even if it becomes unpleasant for him (for example, during veterinary examinations). Blue had two focal seizures in his home, after which he was hospitalized for three days in a clinic. There, he was put on Phenobarbital. Since he has been back at the animal shelter, there have been no further seizures. Further diagnostics are still pending. So far, he has shown himself to be unchanged, fit, and stable. We are happy to provide further information. Active people with dog sense will surely find a very wonderful companion in Blue. Children should not live in his future home. This animal is house-trained. Walks well on a leash.

DE·Show original

About Blue

What life with Blue looks like

Blue is a large young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Blue, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Blue?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Blue on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Blue if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Blue already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Blue isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Blue and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
