Adopt Bluey

Mixed Breed · Unknown · 1 year

A dog adopted from the Orgovány shelter, Bluey, is a very sensitive and shy dog who is still searching for his place and trust in the world. He is difficult to approach, does not yet require human contact or petting, rather he observes from a distance. He feels anxious when confined and howls loudly if something is too much for him. He walks on a leash but is not particularly cooperative, which he still needs to learn. His relationship with other dogs is not always smooth, he reacts with a hunched posture and tends to chase cats. He is looking for an experienced and patient owner who knows that progress with this type of dog comes in small steps. Regular and consistent interaction, and a dog school (which is strongly recommended) can help him feel safe and develop and establish connections. Not recommended for children or first-time owners!

About Bluey

What life with Bluey looks like

Bluey is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Rex Kutyaotthon in Budapest.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Extreme fearfulness and anxiety, needs specialized behavioral rehabilitation

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bluey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bluey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rex Kutyaotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bluey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bluey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rex Kutyaotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bluey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bluey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rex Kutyaotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bluey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
