Bohne

Labrador Retriever · Male · Young · 3 years

Bohne – powerful, eager to work, and really great with guidance Bohne is a three-year-old neutered Labrador male and has been part of our project since October 2025. He came to us with markedly uninhibited aggressive behavior, especially in situations where he was restricted or felt that something was being taken away from him or that he was being restricted. At first, Bohne actively sought out such conflicts and showed little tendency to avoid them. These issues have since changed considerably. At his foster placement, Bohne's aggressive behavior today is mainly limited to food and other things he can eat, as well as things he has snatched for himself. Most importantly, Bohne can now be sent away from food and other things, he is recallable and responsive, even in situations that would previously have clearly escalated. This shows very clearly how well he can learn and regulate himself under reliable guidance. Apart from these issues, Bohne is a really good dog in everyday life. He reliably accompanies his foster carer to dog training sessions, walks calmly on and off the leash through Berlin, lives in a dog group with both male and female dogs, and shows socially stable behavior there. He can be left alone, walks well on the leash as well as off it, and is generally very well oriented. Bohne is a dog who can be a real pleasure to live with, provided that you are experienced with dogs and able to guide him clearly, calmly, and responsibly. In individual moments he still presents a certain degree of risk, which is why he does not belong in inexperienced hands. At the same time, he brings an incredible amount with him: a joy in working, orientation, resilience, and a strong willingness to cooperate. For Bohne, we wish for a responsible person who enjoys continuing to guide this dog and giving him security through structure, and who simply takes pleasure in having a really good dog by their side. Our wish would be for Bohne to go to a dog trainer colleague. We are convinced that there is someone out there who would be eager for this dog, because under good guidance Bohne can be a wonderful companion in training and beyond. After a positive preliminary check, Bohne may be vaccinated, microchipped, treated against parasites, and rehomed with an EU pet passport for a protection fee of €495. By prior arrangement, Bohne may be visited and met in 35625 Hüttenberg.

About Bohne

What life with Bohne looks like

Bohne is a large young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bohne, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bohne?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bohne on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bohne if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Bohne already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bohne isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein SpecialDogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bohne and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
