Adopt Boogie

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Senior · 14 years

Boogie came to the animal shelter because his safe and species-appropriate husbandry was at risk. As an open-minded, friendly, and cuddly bundle of energy, he is able to win the hearts of his humans very quickly. The American Staffordshire Terrier breed can quickly rise to the top of the pack, so he should be given his space to do so. Even during leash training, it can become a bit exciting. Here, the young male dog still has a bit to learn, so his new owners should be physically capable and willing to continue working on his education. Boogie has already learned a lot from his caretakers and knows how to behave. However, he tests whether this also applies to other people. Dog interactions are still challenging for him. He tends to bark and lunge on the leash. Boogie is compatible with female dogs, but his playmates should be physically mature, as his play behavior can be rather rough. Other animals should not be in the household, children should be dog-experienced and at least 14 years old. If renting, a written permission from the landlord is required that a dog of this breed may be kept. Health care: What vaccinations are necessary, and what can I do to ensure my dog has a long and healthy life? You can get an initial overview in this video. We are of course available for further information.

About Boogie

What life with Boogie looks like

Boogie is a large senior american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Hannover in Hannover.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Requires landlord permission for breed-restricted housing, needs continued training for leash reactivity and dog encounters

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Boogie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Boogie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hannover handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Boogie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Boogie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hannover will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Boogie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Boogie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hannover early rather than rehoming privately; they know Boogie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
