Adopt Boris

Mixed Breed · Male · 6 years

Many already know our Boris 🙂 Due to his exceptionally loving gaze, he has already his own little "fan community." However, a proper home has not yet worked out. His main theme is leash manners, where he has improved, but he must be constantly monitored. You should bring experience in dealing with dogs and be able to give him a clear structure. For him, a loving but consistent approach is important. Boris has nothing to do with Wischiwaschi-types of people. A good bond and the necessary understanding towards him are just as crucial. He does not let himself be impressed by people he does not have a connection with. When meeting other dogs, he has to make a big deal out of it and can then get quite attached to the leash. Once he has learned to get to know and accept other dogs, group walks are no problem. But coming into direct contact with or playing with other dogs throws Boris off, which is not for him. In the four walls of his own home, he is, on the other hand, a much more balanced roommate and can easily spend a few hours alone. If a garden is available, it must be escape-proof fenced. Because if he sees a cat outside, the fun is over. Towards people, he is generally friendly and also open to unfamiliar visitors. Additionally, he loves to snuggle extensively with his trusted people ♥ Older children & teenagers who are dog-experienced could probably also be part of the family. However, please no small children, as he, despite his nice nature, does not tolerate everything and his warning signs must be taken seriously. What Boris also greatly enjoys are thinking games and agility tasks (adapted to his age). On our dog field, he is almost a natural talent with whom you can have a lot of fun 😀 Although he is still physically very fit, the age also leaves its mark on him. He now suffers from hearing loss and can only perceive a certain volume/noise. Our caretakers will gladly teach you the right approach and show you how a (leash) training with Boris is still possible despite this 🙂 If you are looking for a faithful soul and are not intimidated by his occasional fussing at the leash, you can contact us and get to know our cuddly Boris informally ❤️ Do you think you are the right person for Boris or would you like to get to know him better? About Boris

What life with Boris looks like

Boris is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires secure fencing due to high prey drive towards cats. Needs consistent training for leash walking and dog socialization.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Boris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Boris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Boris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Boris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Boris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Boris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Boris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
