Adopt Puki

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 2 years

Character and Behavior: Puki arrived at our shelter very frightened. Currently, he has opened up significantly towards us, but remains skittish, especially with sudden movements and loud noises, where he can also show flight readiness. Despite these insecurities, Puki has a very special character with many facets. He can be playful and cheerful, cuddly and mischievous, and even a bit quirky. Especially during play, he quickly warms up once he has built trust. What Puki needs: Puki is easily overwhelmed and requires a lot of patience and empathy. He needs time to build trust, but then makes quick progress. A stable only dog would be ideal to give him security. In his interactions with other dogs, he meets them curiously, but his social behavior is still somewhat insecure, and he has not yet been able to fully engage with his counterpart. Generally, Puki is often easily overwhelmed and has a low frustration tolerance, reacting to new situations more hectically. Sought after: For Puki, we are looking for patient, empathetic people who understand his quirks and give him the time he needs. Puki should arrive in a quiet environment without pressure or stress, as he responds very well to positive reinforcement. With calmness and trust, he will develop into a wonderful companion. Do you think you are the right person for Puki or would you like to get to know her?

About Puki

What life with Puki looks like

Puki is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient, experienced owners due to fearfulness and low frustration tolerance

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Puki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Puki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Puki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Puki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Puki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Puki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Puki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
