Brandy

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Brandy (born 08/2019) is a beautiful black male with expressive eyes, and his elegant appearance catches the eye right away. Behind his dignified exterior is a sensitive dog who still needs to learn to trust people. He needs time, patience, and people who let him arrive at his own pace. Since July 2026, Brandy has been living in a foster home. He has probably had bad experiences with people in the past. Quick movements and cautious attempts to touch him can still cause him great fear. He shows no aggression and does not snap, but out of his insecurity he sometimes reacts with loud yelping. In his bed, he now allows gentle petting. Outside, too, Brandy is making small but valuable progress. At first he preferred to keep a few meters' distance, watching his people and quietly enjoying their presence from afar. Now he dares to come closer and even takes treats from your hand. These are important steps on his journey, even though he still needs a great deal of time to gain security. Brandy gets along well with other female dogs; with male dogs, it depends on whether they get along. Walking on a leash is still difficult for him, and life in a household is largely new territory for him. He needs to get to know many things first and be allowed to understand them. For Brandy, we wish for calm, empathetic people with patience and understanding, who place no expectations on quick progress and give him the security he needs. A smaller, manageable environment could help him better connect with his primary caregivers and make further progress. Of course, we wish for Brandy a loving forever home. A smaller foster home, where he receives individual support and can get to know life as a house dog in peace, would also be a great benefit for him. Brandy deserves to finally have people at his side who show him that closeness can be something beautiful. Brandy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection contract after a positive preliminary check. A safety harness is required when collecting the dog. Such a harness (3-strap safety harness) can be purchased for only €25 along with the adoption.

Brandy (geb.

About Brandy

What life with Brandy looks like

Brandy is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Brandy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Brandy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Brandy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Brandy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Brandy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Brandy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Brandy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
