Adopt Brownie

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Brownie has found his spot! His story: 19073 Schossin. The wonderful Brownie has unfortunately carried a very sad story. After 6 long years in the shelter in Romania, he finally had the good fortune to find a family. He was allowed to travel to his family in Schossin in 2022. Unfortunately, his owner passed away at the end of 2023, and therefore, Brownie is now urgently in need of a new home. Complicating matters, he was often misunderstood as a herding dog. And since his trusted people have not been around for several months now, and he had to live in an unsuitable environment, biting incidents occurred, which is why Brownie was currently placed in the animal shelter in Schwerin. Originally, Brownie came from Bistrita, Romania. It is likely that he spent his life on the streets and was brought to the shelter by dog catchers. During our visits, we always saw Brownie sad in the enclosure. He was always very happy to see us and came immediately to the fence to be stroked briefly. Brownie is estimated to be around 8 years old and brings with him a rather large size, approximately 55-60cm. He is a very friendly male dog, but he is not yet used to wearing a collar and will need good training. He gets along well with other dogs, but the relationship with some male dogs depends on their liking. With his wonderful fur pattern, he is a true beauty and a real eye-catcher! His fur is long and soft and will certainly look even more beautiful when combed. Currently, he cannot be combed yet, and this needs to be trained with Brownie. Brownie shows herding dog traits, including territorial behavior. It would be great for him if his new owners have an enclosed yard or a field. Herding dogs are independent personalities that require the owner to have the necessary consistency and empathy and the ability to deal with an intelligent, independent dog. They are very sensitive and wonderful dogs. People who already have experience with herding dogs do not want any other breeds because they are very loyal and faithful companions. Our Brownie is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He has his EU pet passport and can be adopted after a positive foster home experience. An experienced foster home could also be very helpful for him. Who falls in love with this handsome male dog? Many thanks, Birgit! You gave Brownie his name and thus an identity!. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

Brownie zeigt Herdenschutzhundeigenschaften, u.a. ein territoriales Verhalten.

About Brownie

What life with Brownie looks like

Brownie is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Brownie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Brownie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Brownie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Brownie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Brownie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Brownie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Brownie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
