Bruno

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Characteristics: The pretty bracken mix Bruno was surrendered to the animal shelter Landau in February 2022 by their owners, as they were completely overwhelmed by his behavior. According to the owners, the added trainers had worsened the problems and the unwanted behavior had become more entrenched. For trainer Manuela Habermann, Bruno is a great partner and a true ray of sunshine. He is now absolutely ready for a new home. The pretty bracken mix did not have an easy start in life. Separated from his mother far too early, he came from Croatia to Germany. His insecurities and fears were overlooked, leaving him only the strategy to move forward and defend himself. Ultimately, it was a great fortune for Bruno that his former owners surrendered him to the animal shelter Landau. There, he got a chance at a new start, as they quickly recognized that he needed intensive training and a guide on the way to his new home. Due to personnel and time resources, this was not possible at the animal shelter Landau, and so the pretty male dog joined the HuKo-project at the animal shelter Kaiserslautern in November 2023. We now work every day with him to face the challenges of everyday life. That he is well-equipped for these challenges is essential for a stress-free and uncomplicated coexistence between dog and owner. The pretty male dog works diligently and proves his courage every day. He has developed into a true hero in training. Bruno now needs sensitive people by his side who will help him grow every day. With the necessary empathy, you will have a funny, cuddly, and very clever dog by your side. In Bruno lies a true adventurer who wants to explore the world! Are you ready to further foster the hero in Bruno and accompany him on his adventures?

About Bruno

What life with Bruno looks like

Bruno is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Kaiserslautern in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bruno, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bruno?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Kaiserslautern handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bruno on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bruno if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Kaiserslautern will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bruno already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bruno isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Kaiserslautern early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bruno and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
