Age: approx. 01.01.2015 Breed: Mixed breed Sex: Male Neutered: Yes Origin: Sardinia Location: 52391 Vettweiß-Lüxheim Shoulder height: 67 cm Weight: 40 kg Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes Mediterranean check: Leishmaniasis, Ehrlichiosis, Anaplasmosis positive Illnesses: None known Good with males: Yes Good with females: Yes Cats: Possible but not known Children: Yes, from school age The story of Silvestro once again shows us how important our work for dogs is. On December 27, 2021, we received an emergency call in Germany from German holidaymakers on Sardinia. For several days, a dog had been staying in the immediate vicinity of their motorhome. They did not want to leave him to his fate, because he was already at the end of his strength, injured and covered in parasites. We immediately informed our partner association on Sardinia. One of our foster homes was nearby and drove to the site where the holidaymakers and Silvestro were located. Thanks to the efforts of the holidaying family, Silvestro is now safe. He is first receiving medical care. Lorena, our foster carer, has taken Silvestro in and will now care for and look after him with lots of love. After only one day, Silvestro already looks much better. He eats well and is happy that he is now safe and being lovingly cared for. Update of 02.03.2022: The proud Silvestro has recovered very well from his life on the street. He has grown a beautiful coat and his wounds have healed. Now he only needs a loving family with a garden, or a foster home in Germany, until he finds his forever family. Update of 11.06.2022: There are new pictures of Silvestro. Update of 31.07.2022: Silvestro has settled into his foster home very quickly and well. He enjoys the loving all-round care of his foster "mum." He was housetrained from the start and moves confidently around the house and garden. He likes short walks, but if they get longer, he prefers to head back home. Getting into the car had to be practiced, but once the penny dropped, everything was very easy. Foster mum and Tino (this name is nice and short) now happily drive around or go to the vet, for when blood needed to be drawn for the Mediterranean test. At the vet, he greeted all people and dogs in a friendly way. He calmly endured the treatment. He is a very sweet, laid-back, large "CUDDLE BEAR." Who has a house with a garden and loves large dogs, because only here can Silvestro lead a happy dog's life? Update of 05.11.2022: Silvestro has settled in very well at his foster home. He is a very friendly and affectionate fellow. When out and about, he greets people or dogs very nicely and enjoys being stroked. He lives in harmony with Diva, foster mum's Afghan hound. He feels very comfortable in the house and garden. Car travel is no problem; he jumps straight onto his spot when it's time to go for a walk. He is a sweetheart through and through. His new people should be used to large dogs; a house with a garden is a must. We are looking for a nice family with good dog experience, who are willing to introduce him to his new life with love, patience, and a confident manner. Children should have reached at least school age or have grown up with dogs. Please also read our information on the

About Silvestro

What life with Silvestro looks like

Silvestro is an extra-large senior mixed breed dog waiting at NiemandsHunde in Kerpen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Silvestro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Silvestro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. NiemandsHunde handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Silvestro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Silvestro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — NiemandsHunde will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Silvestro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Silvestro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with NiemandsHunde early rather than rehoming privately; they know Silvestro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
