Mixed Breed · Female

When shelter dogs change lives ✨ Charlotte, Reno and Henry There are stories that show better than any statistics why animal protection is important. Stories that honestly tell how much patience, time and heart sometimes are needed - and how much you get back for it. Achim and Sabine Kinter have now adopted three dogs from our shelter. Three dogs with completely different stories. And three dogs that have changed their lives permanently. The first was Charlotte in 2015 - a delicate black mixed breed from Romania with light brown eyes and a white spot on her chest. Shortly before, the couple had lost their first dog. The grief was great. At the shelter they met Charlotte - and suddenly a new shared path began 🌄 Charlotte quickly became a close companion and became a very special dog for her family. She even inspired Achim Kinter to make her the main character of his books. Two "Charlotte" adventures have already been published, a third volume is planned. But Charlotte was not alone. Soon after came Reno - a dog full of fear, insecurity and distance. At first, it was difficult to get through to him. But with patience, calmness and time, Reno developed into a gentle, deeply connected family member. His story clearly showed how much even difficult dogs can develop when people are willing to give them a real chance. After Reno's death, Charlotte especially mourned her long-time partner. Therefore, the family's path led them again to Gelnhausen. There they met Henry - called Mogli at our shelter at that time. Henry also brought his past with him. He was insecure, easily startled and full of inner unrest. But once again, it became clear what can develop when dogs are not given up too quickly. Step by step, Henry is now growing into his new life. He is learning to trust, closeness and security - and is developing every day. For us as a shelter, it is something very special to receive such feedback. It shows that shelter dogs are not a second choice. Many carry heavy experiences with them - but often it is precisely in them that an incredible depth, loyalty and personality is found. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank Achim and Sabine Kinter for the kind words, the trust in us and for sharing their experiences publicly. Book recommendation: "Charlotte" We particularly like that Charlotte has been immortalized in literature. The book series "Charlotte" by Achim Kinter was inspired by the female dog from our shelter and tells in a special way about bonds, trust and living together with dogs. Anyone who loves dogs - especially dogs with a story - will certainly find many touching moments in the books. We are very happy that a dog from our shelter has not only found a home, but has even become the inspiration for an entire book series. All news Share this page

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
