Buddy

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

At first skeptical, then very affectionate. Birthdate: February 2023. Size: just under knee-high. Compatible with dogs: no. Children in the same household: teenagers possible. Home sought: at the very quiet outskirts of the city or in the countryside. The initially insecure, 2023-born mixed-breed male dog Buddy became very affectionate with people after a short get-to-know-you phase and even likes to cuddle. Although Buddy lived with a second dog, other dogs do not belong to his friends at our animal shelter our shelter. Buddy walks calmly on a leash, but too many encounters with strangers and other dogs still stress him. Being alone in the kennel is difficult for him, so the alone-time in his future home could be an issue, for which more time for step-by-step learning or a backup (dog sitter) should be planned. Buddy is house-trained. Since he arrived with severe skin problems, he currently takes Apoquel and food with a single protein source (horse) and salmon oil – which has significantly improved his condition and his fur is growing back. We are looking for a home for Buddy at the very quiet outskirts of the city or in the countryside.

About Buddy

What life with Buddy looks like

Buddy is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
