Buddy

Male · Puppy · 4 months

Buddy is a young, energetic mixed breed dog who has been surrendered to the shelter due to his owner's inability to cope with his behavior. Buddy was sold as a "beginner-friendly" puppy by an unscrupulous breeder and was expected to be a well-behaved family dog. However, he has proven to be highly reactive, particularly when it comes to food resources, and has a difficult time handling frustration and pressure. He has a strong need to protect his food and has snapped in the past. Buddy is also highly sensitive to stress and can become easily overwhelmed, which is why he requires a calm and stable environment. Buddy's owner has tried several trainers, but none have been able to help him overcome his behavioral issues. The owner has decided to surrender Buddy to the shelter, as it is the best option for both Buddy and herself. Buddy has a strong attachment to his owner and has become stuck in certain behaviors. Buddy is a confident and energetic dog who needs guidance, stability, and security to thrive. He is not suitable for first-time dog owners and requires people with some experience and understanding of dog behavior. He is also sensitive to movement stimuli, particularly cyclists, and requires a home without children. However, he is very good with other dogs and has good social skills. Buddy is a smart and athletic dog who enjoys outdoor activities, but he needs to be in a calm environment. He is not suitable for living with cats or small animals due to his hunting instincts. Buddy needs to work on his leash manners, orientation to humans, and composure. He is grateful for clear decisions and relies on his owner. A confident and experienced first-time dog owner would be the best match for Buddy.

About Buddy

What life with Buddy looks like

Buddy is a medium-sized puppy dog waiting at Tierheim Burgdorf in Burgdorf.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Burgdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Burgdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Buddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Burgdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
