Adopt Buddy

German Shepherd · Male · Adult · 6 years

Age: approx. 6 years (10.11.2019) Every day, we fight to save lives that often go unseen. As an animal welfare association, we stand up for dogs that have been abandoned, abused, or simply forgotten—and give them a second chance at a dignified life. Our commitment goes far beyond traditional animal placement. We run a senior residence for old and often ill dogs, where they can spend their final years in security. At the same time, we support needy pet owners by distributing food, so that people and their pets don't have to be separated. When a dog goes missing, many families experience a time of fear and despair—our animal search assistance quickly and enthusiastically helps in such situations. We are especially dedicated to hard-to-place dogs: Through targeted training programs and intensive socialization, we also give them a real chance at a new home. Many of the animals we take in have experienced violence and neglect. They not only need time and patience, but also comprehensive medical care. Veterinary costs, accommodation, electricity, water, and insurance are ongoing expenses that we must cover entirely on our own—because we receive no subsidies from municipalities or the state. To continue this important work, we rely on strong partners. With your sponsorship, you not only support active animal welfare, but also set a visible sign of responsibility and compassion. In return, we offer you presence on our website, in our social media channels, and on our fleet of vehicles. Together, we can bring hope where there was once only fear—and change lives that cannot do it themselves. We would be very happy to welcome you as a supporter and are always available for a personal conversation. Our association is recognized as non-profit and can issue donation receipts. I would like to provide further documents about the association and discuss them with you on-site and invite you to do so. Please feel free to contact us :-) Help us—with just 1 Euro per month. Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00.

About Buddy

What life with Buddy looks like

Buddy is a adult german shepherd dog waiting at Hunde SOS Oberberg e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunde SOS Oberberg e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunde SOS Oberberg e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunde SOS Oberberg e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
