Buffy

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 12 years

Buffy is a male dog, born around 2014. He is a fearful, distrustful dog who has been invisible for far too long. Buffy and his brother Pablo were – according to our research – already rescued from the Buftea kill shelter in 2021. By then they had already spent three years there. If this information is correct, Buffy has now been living behind bars for at least seven years. Seven years that have turned two cheerful, playful brothers into quiet, broken dogs. To give them a springboard to a better future, both were sent to a "training camp." However, we have to be honest: Buffy simply does not cope with the training method used there. He only reluctantly tolerates contact with the glove, and given his occasionally slightly raised upper lip, the trainer will presumably not take that glove off. Update August 2026: During the visit in August, Buffy appeared somewhat more cautious than his brother Pablo. He did not want to take the treats from the hand that had been brought along, but they could be placed in front of his paws – and there he ate them with obvious enjoyment, completely calmly and in the presence of his visitor. It is so sad to see how the once cheerful, playful dog has become a reserved, quiet fellow. The presumably eight years in total of shelter life have left clear marks. Buffy seems tired and wary, almost as if he has come to terms with his life behind bars. That is exactly why he urgently needs people who will show him that his life can still take a turn for the better – people who have patience, expect nothing, and give him time to learn to trust again. Who will give Buffy the chance he so desperately needs? General note about our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in conveying as accurate a picture as possible of each individual dog. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that a dog may behave differently in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs even open up more quickly at home and show sides of themselves that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of any particular behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and develop positively.

About Buffy

What life with Buffy looks like

Buffy is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buffy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buffy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buffy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buffy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Buffy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buffy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buffy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
