Bug

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Adult · 6 years

Bug may be small in size, but his character certainly makes up for it! He loves his toys, especially the squeaky kind that he can parade around. He also enjoys settling down with a chew beside you and spending quality time together. Bug can be unsure of new situations and will require further training, but the reward of putting in the time for this side of him to shine is truly worth it! Ready to start his next chapter with a forever family is Bug! A toy mad little guy with bags of character. Bug will be best suited to living with older teens in a pet free home. Adopters will need to meet him a few times at the centre as it takes him a little time to build trust with new people. For this reason, a home with minimal visitors will be needed. Bug’s new family should be prepared to take things slow and at his pace whilst he settles in and continue positive associations when he’s ready. This will also extend to formal handling and vet visit. Within the home it will be ideal to have an area that Bug can call his ‘safe space’ where he can relax and settle. Bug is receiving medication and will require this long-term. Our Vet team will be happy to discuss this in further detail with potential adopters.

About Bug

What life with Bug looks like

Bug is a small adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Darlington in Sadberge.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bug, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bug?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Darlington handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bug on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bug if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Darlington will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Bug already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bug isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Darlington early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bug and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
