Now I'm also often seen during the day, at a safe distance. During feeding times, I'm sure to appear; you never know if there's something tasty to score. I'm getting braver and can now sit a suitable distance from my foster mom, and I'm pampered with all sorts of treats. I find petting still a bit exciting. I'm not quite ready to allow it yet, but my foster mom has faith that I will eventually, when I'm ready. In the meantime, you can enjoy the silly acrobatics I perform and watch me lying there, chilling in the sun. I'm still quite skittish. If anything unexpected happens or someone makes a sudden movement, I immediately duck under the couch. So, I'm still a real scaredy-cat in training. But step by step, I'm getting better. Sometimes I let my wild side take over, then I run, jump, and dart in all directions. I love chasing a toy. I get along well with my feline siblings. I might still be shy, but I'm growing a little bit every day, on my own tough cat terms. Unfortunately, I've tested positive for FIV. This is the same as HIV in humans, the precursor to AIDS. This doesn't necessarily mean I'll develop AIDS. I'm just a bit more susceptible to infections because my immunity is lower. But with proper care, I can still live a long life. It's not contagious to humans or other animals, just to cats. That's why I can't be placed with healthy cats. Because I'm FIV-positive, I can't roam freely outdoors. If you have a well-fenced garden where I can occasionally get some fresh air, that would be fantastic, but I'm now also used to indoor life.

Ik zit inmiddels al geruime tijd in de pleegopvang. In die tijd heb ik heel wat katjes zien komen en gaan. Voor mij heeft zich helaas nog niemand gemeld. En eerlijk gezegd… ik snap het niet helemaal, want kijk nou naar mij! Ik ben toch een hartstikke knappe kater? Gelukkig heb ik hier ondertussen een heel bijzondere vriendschap gesloten. Voor het eerst in mijn leven ben ik écht maatjes geworden met een andere kat: Pim. En met Pim ben ik onafscheidelijk. We spelen ontzettend veel samen en dat beperkt zich echt niet alleen tot overdag. Ook ’s nachts vinden we het blijkbaar een uitstekend idee om achter elkaar aan te rennen en de boel op stelten te zetten. Tja… als je zo’n leuke vriend hebt, moet je daar natuurlijk optimaal gebruik van maken! ’s Ochtends kom ik iedereen netjes begroeten. Even kijken wie er allemaal zijn en natuurlijk zorgen dat niemand mij vergeet. En als het over eten gaat, weet ik precies hoe laat het is. Zodra het bijna snacktijd is, kom ik op veilige afstand in de keuken wachten. Ik doe alsof ik héél toevallig in de buurt ben, maar ondertussen houd ik natuurlijk alles scherp in de gaten. Zodra mijn lekkere snack tevoorschijn komt, weet ik precies waarvoor ik hier sta. Ik ben nog altijd een beetje voorzichtig en aaien vind ik nog spannend, maar ik maak steeds meer mooie stapjes. En met Pim aan mijn zijde voel ik me helemaal op mijn gemak. Nu hoop ik vooral dat er eindelijk iemand voor míj komt. Iemand die ziet wat een knappe, bijzondere kater ik ben en die mij de tijd geeft om op mijn eigen tempo verder te groeien. En natuurlijk zou het helemaal geweldig zijn als Pim daarbij ook een plekje in dat verhaal krijgt. Helaas is wel gebleken dat ik FIV-positief ben. Dit is hetzelfde als Hiv bij mensen, het voorstadium van aids. Dit hoeft niet te betekenen dat ik ook echt aids krijg. Ik ben hierdoor alleen wat gevoeliger voor infecties omdat mijn weerstand lager is. Maar met de juiste verzorging kan ik nog best oud worden. Het is niet besmettelijk voor mensen of andere dieren, alleen voor katten. Daarom mag ik niet bij gezonde katten geplaatst worden.
