Adopt Bullut

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Gender: male dog Born on: 14.01.2019 Breed: Kangal At the animal shelter since: 26.08.2021 Gets along with other dogs depending on mutual sympathy Loving and affectionate Somewhat untrained Suitable for children from teenage age onward Dog experience required Enjoys car rides Bullut was surrendered to us with a heavy heart due to a serious illness in the family. Most Kangals arriving at the animal shelter at 2.5 years old—right in the middle of their adolescence—are often quite challenging dogs. However, Bullut (which means "cloud") is a cheerful fellow who approaches everyone in a friendly and open manner. His previous owners did excellent groundwork here. To ensure Bullut remains this friendly bear, we are looking for dog-experienced people who have thoroughly researched this breed or already have some initial experience with it. He can be left alone for 4–5 hours; however, if he’s under-stimulated or needs to be alone longer, he starts whining and barking. So far, he has only met children outside his territory and was very friendly toward them. Due to his size, we would therefore like to place him only in homes with children from teenage age onward. At home, he is very alert—as befits a Kangal—but still happily welcomes visitors. This behavior should continue to be encouraged positively. During dog encounters, he sometimes becomes very excitable and may snap at the leash or even toward the person holding it; this absolutely needs consistent training. He has also learned that during play, it’s acceptable to gently take a human’s arm or hand into his mouth—a habit that urgently needs to be unlearned, as he now tries to prevent the animal caretakers from leaving his run because he wants their attention and affection. For Bullut, we are seeking dog-experienced individuals who will continue raising him with love but firm consistency to truly turn him into the perfect companion. He knows basic commands, could ride in the car for hours on end, and is a very calm companion at home. He is afraid of loud noises such as ambulance sirens, motorcycles, fireworks, and large trucks, so one should be mindful of this during walks. He generally gets along well with female dogs; with male dogs, compatibility depends somewhat on mutual sympathy. As lovable as Bullut is, he is equally stubborn. He decides whether he feels like going on a long walk or prefers a short one—and simply lies down if he’s had enough. If you try to persuade him to keep walking, he’ll flop completely onto his side, and then nothing more will happen. He doesn’t like sharing toys or food with other dogs, so caution is advised if there’s already another dog in the household. Cats, squirrels, moles, etc., are chased and so far have only been “cornered” rather than harmed; therefore, we see him best suited to a cat-free home. Bullut has previously lived indoors as a full-fledged family member, and that’s exactly the kind of home we’re now hoping to find for him again. This animal has a history of biting.

About Bullut

What life with Bullut looks like

Bullut is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Lübbecke in Lübbecke.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bullut, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bullut?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Lübbecke handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bullut on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bullut if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Lübbecke will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bullut already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bullut isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Lübbecke early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bullut and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
