Burbon

Male · Senior · 12 years

Burbon arrived in July 2020 from Radys, unfortunately we do not know how long he was there... We do not know the exact history of our charge. We are urgently looking for a home for Bourbon. Recent results indicate a suspicion of bladder cancer, so Burbon no longer has time to wait... Burbon is a great dog, but not for everyone. He requires more pre-adoption walks, building a bond and establishing trust with a human. At first he can be distrustful, but he opens up to people - currently he gets excited at the sight of known volunteers, jumping around like a puppy! Burbon, like any dog, does not fully understand human gestures such as hugging, but feels good in the company of people he knows. The future owner must be aware that this is a dog who has already suffered a lot in life, that this is a dog who is still unfamiliar. In unknown, stressful situations he may feel uncomfortable and clearly signal his concerns. Burbon for familiar people is a big teddy bear who needs contact with humans. He is also very intelligent, trainable dog who gladly follows commands and learns new ones. He can work well with humans. He is positively oriented towards other dogs. Currently, he is doing very well in group walks with more people and dogs, and it is not a problem for him. Burbon is a wonderful dog socializer for other friends and acquaintances from the animal shelter. Burbon has been guest on the Adopt a Warsaw Dog events three times. Crowds of people, street traffic are not a problem for him, when he goes hand in hand with his human. He posed beautifully for photos, and also allowed strangers to pet him. Trips are a huge experience for him, he is very happy when he can explore new areas, and he loves water bodies where he can swim. This dog deserves a chance for a better ending to his own life story. ❤️ **Burbon requires an extended adoption process. Due to the slow building of relationships with humans, the adoption of the dog will be carried out on individual terms established with a behaviorist, bypassing the rules regarding the conduct of the adoption process contained in the current general procedure.**

Wymaga większej ilości spacerów przedadopcyjnych, nawiązania więzi i zbudowania zaufania do człowieka.

About Burbon

What life with Burbon looks like

Burbon is a large senior dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Suspected bladder cancer requiring urgent medical attention

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Burbon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Burbon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Burbon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Burbon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Burbon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Burbon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Burbon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
