Burli

Dachshund · Male · Adult · 6 years

Hello from Outside, My name is Burli. I was previously at the animal shelter and was rehomed in 2023, but unfortunately, I can't be taken care of anymore, so I was brought back. I am a very friendly, but also anxious, dog. Originally, I came from a larger intake with several other dogs and had to learn here at the animal shelter that nothing bad would happen to me. With my beloved human, I've been through thick and thin for three years, but fate still has plans for me. If new people give me a little space, I open up relatively quickly and carefully seek contact. New situations still scare me a lot, but the better I know the person next to me, the easier it becomes. When I'm afraid, I tend to run away, so I always need to be secured with a safety harness and leash. I get along well with dogs and also with cats. Physically, I show no major issues, though I might still be a bit overweight. I'm looking for a home in a quieter neighborhood, and a garden would be fantastic, but it has to be escape-proof! A doggy buddy would definitely help me settle in better, and I could even have cats already living there. Do you want to show me that the world doesn't have to be scary? Then get in touch!.

Dann melde dich!Dein Burli

About Burli

What life with Burli looks like

Burli is a large adult dachshund dog waiting at Tierschutzverein St. Pölten in St. Pölten.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Burli, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Burli?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein St. Pölten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Burli on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Burli if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein St. Pölten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Burli already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Burli isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein St. Pölten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Burli and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
