Adopt Burrito

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The approximately 3-year-old, neutered Sighthound-Mix male dog "Burrito" is looking for a suitable home with people who enjoy a friendly, active and affectionate dog. "Burrito" shows himself to be very open, friendly and cuddly when interacting with people. He enjoys the company of his trusted people, likes to make contact and presents himself overall as a pleasant and social companion in daily life. He usually meets strangers openly and without problems. With other dogs, "Burrito" has so far been compatible and social. Depending on his sympathy and situation, he likes to play and interact with fellow animals, but can also be quiet while being out together. Due to his friendly nature, an existing, equally compatible only dog would generally be conceivable, but is not a requirement. As a Sighthound-Mix, "Burrito" has typical breed characteristics of great enthusiasm for movement and good endurance. He loves to move, be outdoors and attentively observe his environment. Walks, secure off-leash areas as well as mental stimulation that challenges both physically and mentally should therefore be part of his future daily routine. At the same time, he appears balanced in a household setting when adequately stimulated, and enjoys rest periods near his humans. Due to his breed, a prey drive is expected in "Burrito". Encounters with wildlife or fast-moving stimuli can be interesting for him. Therefore, his future owners should familiarize themselves with the characteristics of sighthounds or Sighthound-Mixes and be willing to handle this topic responsibly. A securely fenced off-leash area would be ideal so that "Burrito" can move around controlled and safely. We wish for "Burrito" a home with active people who have enough time for shared activities, mental stimulation and a reliable adjustment period.

Aufgr

About Burrito

What life with Burrito looks like

Burrito is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. in Dormagen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Burrito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Burrito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Burrito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Burrito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Burrito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Burrito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Burrito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
