Buster

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Senior · 9 years

Buster would happily live with children 8 years and over and is more than happy to be left at home alone once settled in for a few hours, he currently will snooze on the sofa by the window whilst he waits for his carers to return from work. Buster has the potential to also live with another calm K9 pal pending a successful meet here at the centre. Being a senior Buster does has some ongoing medical requirements that will be life long commitments for his new family. We are more than happy to discuss Buster's needs with any adopter who may be interested in giving this gent a chance at a happy retirement. If you think you have room in your heart and home for Buster, get your application in now and get him added to your favourites! Buster is 9 & a half years old and is a Jack Russell cross. As Buster is an older gentleman we thought whilst he spends him time with us we would place him with one of our loving foster carers. He has settled brilliantly and his foster carers say he is a fab little house guest. He is house trained, he sleeps overnight, and he travels well in the car. He is dog social, although sometimes just ignores them out on walks as he is off in his own little world enjoying all the smells on offer. Buster enjoys trips to the beach and going on adventures with his foster carer, as always being the 'pawfect' gentleman. Don't be fooled by Buster's age, he is very much still young at heart, he likes to steal warm socks from the radiator and enjoys playing with his toys. When his carers come home from being out or they have a visitor Buster will jump up at his carers with excitement and sometimes if there was a toy around he would just pick that up and bring it to them to say hi.

About Buster

What life with Buster looks like

Buster is a senior jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Darlington in Sadberge.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buster, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buster?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Darlington handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buster on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buster if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Darlington will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buster already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buster isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Darlington early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buster and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
