Buttercup

Lurcher · Female · Adult · 5 years

Like the flower she’s named after, Buttercup is just waiting for the right conditions to bloom. This gentle girl has a heart full of love and is searching for a patient family who will help her confidence blossom. Buttercup is a real sweetheart who enjoys spending time with the people she knows and trusts. Although she can be a little sensitive when making new friends, once you’ve earned her trust you’ll discover an affectionate companion who loves calm fuss and gentle affection. She also walks beautifully on lead, regularly checking in with her handler, and she’s a very foodie girl, making her a joy to get to know. At the centre, Buttercup has shown us that she has a worried side and can find the world a little overwhelming at times. Around other dogs, she prefers to have space and may become vocal if she feels uncomfortable, so she’s looking to be the only dog in the home. She’ll also be happiest living in a quieter area with a low dog population and peaceful walking routes, allowing her to enjoy her adventures without feeling overwhelmed. One of Buttercup’s favourite things is having the chance to stretch her legs in our secure paddocks, where she loves to run, sniff and explore using her nose. As she is housetrained and appreciates having a safe space to herself, she’ll need a home with a secure private garden where she can continue to build her confidence and enjoy exploring at her own pace. Buttercup is looking for kind, compassionate owners who understand that worried dogs need time and reassurance. She could live with sensible teenagers aged 14 and over who will respect her boundaries and give her the space she needs while she settles in. With love, understanding and plenty of tasty treats, we know Buttercup has all the potential to flourish into the wonderful companion we know she can be. ng form and feel you can meet Louie's needs as stipulated above, you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest.

About Buttercup

What life with Buttercup looks like

Buttercup is a large adult lurcher dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buttercup, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buttercup?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buttercup on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buttercup if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Buttercup already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buttercup isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buttercup and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
