Button

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Buttons is looking for an adult-only home and will require outdoor access. Button is a beautiful little lady who sadly has had a hard time adjusting to the shelter environment. She currently spends most of her time hiding away in her bed where she feels safe. However, she has slowly but surely been growing in confidence and, as she’s finding her feet, she’s showing us what a friendly and affectionate girl she can be. She will now come out of her hiding space with a little bit of encouragement from our staff and loves being made a fuss of and having some head scratches. For a little lady, she has a huge purr! Unfortunately, Button was brought into the shelter with no background information and so we don’t know anything about her previous life prior to her arrival with us. Based on what we’ve seen in our care, we feel she would be happiest in a calm and quiet home who can offer her the time, patience and gentle reassurance she needs whilst she is familiarising herself with her new surroundings. Her new family should be understanding that it may take her a little while to fully settle in and let her guard down. Button has already shown us what a sweet little soul she is and we have no doubt she will only continue to go from strength to strength once in the safety and security of a loving forever home. We can’t wait to see her confidence grow even more with her forever family – we are sure she will reward them with tons of love and affection once she’s made herself at home.

About Button

What life with Button looks like

Button is a extra-large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Button, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Button?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Button on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Button if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Button already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Button isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Button and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
