Sultan

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 14 years

Sultan could live with children age 10+, he is an indoor-only cat. He could possibly live with another cat following careful introductions. Sultan is a cat that cannot be missed! He is a very large boy who has a large personality to match and an even larger heart! He is a very confident and affectionate boy often demanding attention from anyone and everyone he comes across. He has a large and vocal meow to go with it! He is a very curious boy and wants to be involved in everything and just generally likes to potter around his human friends and explore his surroundings. Sultan is currently our longest-termer, he’s been in a foster home for the last couple of months while our vets have been looking into his medical issues. He’s had glowing reports from his foster home, they’re praising how well he settled in and what a wonderful, friendly boy he is. Sultan would love a home that is ready to take on his size and the attention he needs as well as keep his brain ticking with lots of enrichment! We know Sultan will be absolute joy to have in his new home.

About Sultan

What life with Sultan looks like

Sultan is a large senior mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sultan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sultan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sultan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sultan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sultan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sultan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sultan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
