adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Caillou has found his home! His story: Originally, our helper Raluca was looking for another dog, when suddenly Caillou appeared on a field path and frantically ran after her car. She stopped, and his immediately accessible, open nature made the decision easy: This friendly fellow couldn't be left behind. Shortly after, Caillou gratefully sat in the footwell of her car and took a small step closer to his dream of a home. Currently, Caillou lives in a Romanian shelter and demonstrates his unbeatable talent there: He infects everyone around him with his joy of life and wins hearts in a storm. He is a dog who wants to belong, and he shows it without shame: with every glance, every wag of the tail, and every joyful jump. Caillou not only loves people, he lives for them. Affection he soaks up and gives back with complete naturalness. Not only his honey-colored fur, the dark-set snout, and his sturdy build of about 63 cm at around 25 kg make the 1.5-year-old Caillou reminiscent of a German Shepherd mix. Also his very people-oriented nature, his deep loyalty, and his high cleverness reflect the special characteristics of this breed. Caillou has unfortunately not had the chance to learn much yet – indoor potty training or life in a house were not topics for him so far. Nevertheless, the young male dog brings the best prerequisites for developing into a wonderful family member with his eager to learn and considerate nature. Caillou could also be a great second dog, as he gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He meets them socially, playfully, and sometimes even a little clumsy, which only makes him more lovable. Whether he likes cats, we don't know. For our Caillou, we are looking for an active home that integrates him into everyday life and offers him clear orientation. People who enjoy learning new things together with him, discovering new things, and growing as a team, fit perfectly with him. Also, a visit to a qualified dog training class or trying out dog sports would certainly make Caillou very happy. If you are still looking for a partner in crime, a feisty friend, or your soulmate, and can offer Caillou a foster home, please feel free to contact us. Many thanks, Verena P., for taking over his namesship. As of: 19.02. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 19.02.2026

About Caillou

What life with Caillou looks like

Caillou is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Caillou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Caillou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Caillou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Caillou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Caillou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Caillou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Caillou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
