Calea

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Calea, Caris and Campbell (born circa September 2023) arrived at the shelter in Shumen without their mother when they were just a few months old. Unfortunately, we know nothing about their history, where they were born, where they spent their first months or what experiences they had. During our visit in March, we saw them for the first time at the shelter. They were housed with many other young dogs in an enclosure. Calea is still anxious like her siblings and unfortunately avoids us. The shelter staff unfortunately do not have time to care for the shy dogs as they would need. Regular, close contact with people would be so important for their development. However, Calea is a very gentle dog who lets herself be caught when you take her outside for a short trip. During her first outing, she was completely overwhelmed by the new situation and still seemed petrified. On the next attempt in May, she still did not want to walk, but that's not unusual either. We think it will take her a lot of time until she can form a closer bond with humans because unfortunately she never learned that. The sweet girl has known nothing except the limited shelter world. We see her at people with experience with anxious dogs. She definitely needs a quiet, childless household in a rural environment. A small garden would be very advantageous in her case, as we cannot estimate when walks with Calea will be possible and how long it will take until she is relaxed outside so that she can relieve herself. At the moment, she lives together with dogs of the same age in an enclosure. She has no problems with her fellow dogs, so a friendly, confident first dog could live happily at home. A friendly first dog would definitely make it easier for her to settle in. The sweet Calea is chipped, vaccinated and already spayed. She could leave the shelter at any time. We sincerely hope that she will be discovered soon! If you have a nice home for this beautiful girl, please fill out the interested party questionnaire: Grund zur Hoffnung e.V. Verena Albert

About Calea

What life with Calea looks like

Calea is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Collies suchen ein Zuhause in Oldenburg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Calea, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Calea?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Collies suchen ein Zuhause handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Calea on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Calea if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Collies suchen ein Zuhause will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Calea already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Calea isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Collies suchen ein Zuhause early rather than rehoming privately; they know Calea and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
