Caleb

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

They say Caleb means “faithfulness.” In fact, in Hebrew, Kalev is associated with loyalty and devotion—and some even link his name to Kelev, which means “dog.” We couldn’t have chosen a better name for him, could we? Caleb comes from a Noah’s Ark syndrome, along with Levi and dozens of other dogs. We don’t know whether he spent his entire eight years in this situation—competing for space, food... and receiving little or no veterinary care or human warmth. He came to us as part of a group of ten frightened dogs. Given his past, he could have become distrustful. He could have learned to keep his distance from people. But instead, he chose to trust. He was the first dog in the group we were able to pet. He has an excellent temperament: he gets along well with both males and females—what else could you expect, right? He had no choice but to adapt! From what we’ve seen, he can also share space peacefully with cats. With people, he’s absolutely adorable. It’s true that he’s not the lapdog you can just pick up and cuddle—at least not yet. He needs his own space to feel comfortable trusting you, but as you can see, he does so quickly. Caleb is in his element when exploring new spaces. He’s a very curious dog who doesn’t hesitate to be the first one to stick his nose into everything. He loves affection, especially on his chest and neck, and he seems like the kind of companion we’d all love to have—the one you know will always be there for you. If you’re thinking about adopting a dog, you simply have to come meet Caleb!

About Caleb

What life with Caleb looks like

Caleb is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Protectora de Ibi in Ibi (Alicante).

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Caleb, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Caleb?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora de Ibi handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Caleb on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Caleb if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora de Ibi will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Caleb already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Caleb isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora de Ibi early rather than rehoming privately; they know Caleb and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
