Cali

Husky · Female · Adult · 8 years

Cali is a seven-year-old Husky with a wonderfully friendly, affectionate, and relaxed personality. She loves spending time with people and will happily seek out fuss and attention from those around her. During her assessment, Cali was calm, curious, and eager to interact, showing friendly body language throughout and enjoying meeting new people. An active girl at heart, Cali enjoys exercise, exploring new places, and learning new things. She absolutely loves playing with her football and is always happy to earn treats while practising her skills. She travels brilliantly, making her a fantastic companion for adventures both near and far. At home, Cali is housetrained and settles well after a day of activity. Like many Huskies, she comes with plenty of character and even enjoys showing off her famous husky singing voice from time to time! While soft toys don't tend to last very long around Cali, she more than makes up for it with her playful nature and love of spending time with her people. Cali is looking for adopters who can continue building her confidence and helping her enjoy all the adventures life has to offer. She's a clever girl who enjoys learning, loves her treats, and will thrive with a family who can provide plenty of enrichment, exercise, and companionship. In return, you'll gain a loyal, loving companion who enjoys being involved in family life and forming strong bonds with her people. Cali is looking for an active home that can provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, and opportunities to continue her training. She loves getting out and about and would thrive with adopters who enjoy long walks and outdoor adventures. A private garden would be beneficial, giving her space to relax and enjoy time with her family. Cali could live with sensible secondary-school-aged children who understand how to interact respectfully with dogs. Homes with dog-savvy primary-school-aged children may also be considered. Due to her strong prey drive, Cali cannot live with cats or other small animals. Potential homes with another dog, or neighbouring dogs, may be considered following successful introductions and guidance from the centre. Although Cali settles well when left, any leaving hours should be kept to a minimum initially and gradually built up as she settles into her new home. She is looking for adopters who can continue her positive, reward-based training and help her be the best version of herself.

About Cali

What life with Cali looks like

Cali is a small adult husky dog waiting at Dogs Trust Newbury in Newbury.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cali, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cali?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Newbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cali on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cali if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Newbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cali already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cali isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Newbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cali and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
