Mixed Breed · Female · Kitten

All cats Calista Print Published: April 29, 2026 Breed: DSH Age: around 2017 (possibly younger) Gender: female neutered: yes Color: silver gray with light markings husbandry: Free-roaming We took in Calista from our partner organization, Tierhilfe Hoffnung. She is one of 23 cats that lived together with 114 dogs on a farm and were secured by the animal protection police. Calista was a guest on hello Hessen in HR. See for yourself: Calista is a sight to behold in our free-roaming area. She is also secretly the boss of the group. She makes sure everything is in order and likes to make her rounds to ensure there are no squabbles. If there is any unrest, she comes running loudly and stands in front of the weaker one. She doesn't back down, and if she has to fight, she will. So far, everything has gone without injuries, but when you hear her scream, you might think the other party must have at least one ear less. When it comes to humans, Calista is a loving cat. She enjoys being stroked and is generally uncomplicated. However, she can also clearly show her boundaries. Therefore, small children would not be suitable in the family. As mentioned above, she is used to dogs and would like a home where she can move in with a friend (e.g., Ginger) or be the sole ruler. Her home should be in a low-traffic area because Calista wants to have her free-roaming again after acclimatization and building trust. Would you like to meet this beautiful lady? For more information and/or to arrange a visit (or contact the foster home), please call the animal shelter. It is convenient to call between 9:00 and 12:00 in the morning and then again between 14:00 and 16:00.

About Calista

What life with Calista looks like

Calista is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Alsfeld in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Calista, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Calista?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Alsfeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Calista on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Calista if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Alsfeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Calista already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Calista isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Alsfeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Calista and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
