Husky · Male · Adult · 8 years

Adoption assistance - looking for a home! For Calypso, we provide adoption assistance for a friendly animal protection association. Calypso's past is in Romania. There, the dog had to spend more than six years confined - without movement and human contact - in a kennel together with two fellow sufferers. Through our friendly animal protection association, the three dogs were rescued from their disastrous living situation in Romania and brought to a foster home in Germany. The other two dogs have already found a wonderful home. Now Calypso is still waiting for his soul people. Daily work is done with the reserved dog at the foster home. There he learns a life that is new to him and after many years of deprivation, he experiences affection and attention from people. Calypso enjoys his regained freedom of movement and looks rejuvenated. He is still cautious and reserved towards people, but his caretaker has already gained his trust. Calypso is also happy to see people he knows. He is compatible with his companions and behaves socially towards them. With his fox-like appearance and his own charm, Calypso has won the heart of his foster mom. We are looking for a final and loving home for Calypso. It should be located in a rural area and on ground level, and must also have a securely fenced garden for Calypso. We wish people by his side who have experience in living with shy dogs. Also, a confident first dog should be waiting for Calypso. If you want to seriously embark on a joint journey with Calypso and give this special dog soul a secure future, then we look forward to your inquiries. Adopting a rescue dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also be a challenge. The dogs bring along a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations and need time to adjust to their new life. If you have a serious interest in adopting Calypso, please contact the responsible adoption officer of SALVA Dog Rescue. The contact information is below. Here is a video of Calypso.

Vermittlungshilfe – Zuhause gesucht!

About Calypso

What life with Calypso looks like

Calypso is a adult husky dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Calypso, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Calypso?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Calypso on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Calypso if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Calypso already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Calypso isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Calypso and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
