Camaron

Podenco · Male · Adult · 3 years

Camaron – beautiful Podenco Campanero The handsome and visually very special Camaron has been on a foster home since December 2025. We don't know much about his past in southern Spain, but his poor physical condition suggests that he didn't have it good. He probably lived with a hunter due to his breed and therefore probably didn't experience much positive. Nevertheless, the large dog is friendly and people-oriented. He now knows life in the house, is housebroken and rides calmly in the car. Something still needs to be worked on in terms of leash training, and unfortunately, due to his breed-related hunting drive, he will probably never be able to run without a leash. Therefore, for him there should definitely be a securely fenced garden or a well-secured dog run nearby. Camaron gets along with other dogs, but needs a phase of getting to know each other because he initially reacts somewhat insecurely and anxiously. Unfortunately, Camaron has several health problems. He tested positive for Leishmaniosis, Anaplasmosis and Rickettsiosis. (Information about these diseases can be found here) He is under veterinary treatment and requires very regular and long-term medication. Due to his illnesses or as a result of his poor treatment in Spain, he tends to self-harming behavior. If he has the opportunity, he bites and licks his paws. In addition, he bites himself bloody on certain areas of his body. To prevent this, he must wear a muzzle during times when he is not supervised. Despite his illnesses, he is a very agile and active dog. Here is Camaron's video.

About Camaron

What life with Camaron looks like

Camaron is a large adult podenco dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Camaron, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Camaron?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Camaron on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Camaron if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Camaron already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Camaron isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Camaron and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
