Canela

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 11 years

A Canela was born in July 2015 and, like her sister Flapi, came to the shelter when she was very young. Since December of that year, this has been the only place she has called home. The years passed slowly. Too slowly. While many stories began and ended around her, Canela stayed. She always stayed. Without adoption visits. Without choices. Without the opportunity that never arrived. She grew up among routines, fences, and long waits, never knowing what it means to belong to a family, to have a sofa, a lap... There is a quiet sadness in realizing that some animals spend their entire lives invisible, despite having so much to give. Canela is one of them. Still, she remains here. Calmly. Patiently. With hope. Waiting for someone to look at her and decide that it still makes sense to change everything.

PT·Show original

About Canela

What life with Canela looks like

Canela is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Associacao Midas in Portugal.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Canela, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Canela?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Associacao Midas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Canela on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Canela if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Associacao Midas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Canela already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Canela isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Associacao Midas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Canela and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
