Adopt Canela

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Canela and his sisters were born to a street dog near a waste processing facility. Many dogs frequent the area as they always find enough to eat there. An employee became aware of the litter and wanted to spare them the fate of their mother. He took the four siblings and brought them to the animal shelter Adoromimos. Their mother was unfortunately never caught and is still occasionally sighted in the vicinity of the facility. Canela and his sisters are very reserved and shy. Currently, Canela lives in a run with his sister Kika, which is very advantageous for him as Kika is the most courageous of the four and pulls him along with her curiosity. If one sits quietly on the ground and gives Canela some time, he will come up, sniff you from head to toe, and is also happy to hold his bottom out for a good scratch and rub. Canela is a curious dog with a lot of potential. He needs to learn to step out of his comfort zone. He is not the kind of fearful dog that hides in corners when people are around. What he lacks is someone who takes the time and patience to teach him proximity, trust, and security with people. Unfortunately, this is very limited at the animal shelter, and the time and volunteer capacities do not allow for this to the same extent. He needs people who will take his paw and help him step by step through his doubts and insecurities. With other dogs, Canela shows a very friendly side. In the run, he can play exuberantly with all of them and enjoys the moments of carefree fun. For Canela, a confident only dog companion would certainly be helpful for him to look up to. However, this is not a must.

About Canela

What life with Canela looks like

Canela is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Canela, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Canela?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Canela on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Canela if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Canela already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Canela isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Canela and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
