Canitas

Mixed Breed Cat · Unknown · Adult · 9 years

Name: Canitas Breed: EHK (European Shorthair) Gender: female, spayed Date of birth: approximately 01.08.2023 Size: adult, small size Location: Municipal Cat Shelter under the care of the animal welfare association CanFlix & Ampare, Mora la Nova, Catalonia (Spain) Blood tests: FIV and FeLV negative (tested 18.01.2024) Canitas arrived at the municipal cat shelter together with her sister Simi. Simi, who looks like a beautiful Siamese cat, caught everyone's attention with her striking appearance and was adopted almost immediately. Canitas, however, hasn’t been so lucky yet. She is a black cat whose only distinctive feature is her coat full of white hairs. These white hairs are not a sign of aging—the kitten has had them since birth, which is how she got her name Canitas, meaning “the Grey One.” Additionally, “the grey mouse” has an injured eye—a corneal injury to the eyeball. This injury doesn’t impair her in any way, but it does make her appear less appealing to potential adopters. The injury is a consequence of her life as a street cat… When Georgina and her team took in Canitas, it was clear that life on the streets had taken its toll on her. Canitas is a shy and fearful cat. She needs time and trust to open her heart. In Spain, her chances of adoption are close to zero: Canitas is already an adult, shy, has a visible flaw, no special coat color, and doesn’t belong to a sought-after breed. Still, we’re keeping all our fingers and paws crossed and hope to welcome this special girl to Germany very soon! Canitas’s adoption coordinator, Verena Strobel, would be delighted to hear from you by phone, email, or WhatsApp. Like all our cats, this unique kitty will travel to her new life microchipped, vaccinated (against rabies, Feligen, and Tricat Novum), dewormed, tested for FIV and FeLV, spayed, and equipped with an EU pet passport!

About Canitas

What life with Canitas looks like

Canitas is a adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Tierfreunde Europa e.V. in Simonswald.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Canitas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Canitas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Canitas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Canitas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Canitas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Canitas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Canitas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
