Cara

Female

A cat and her four kittens were found by tourists at a holiday resort in a village near Sassari. The mother cat would regularly visit and be fed, and because the tourists suspected she had kittens, they followed her one day and discovered the family's shelter in a completely abandoned and dilapidated house at the edge of the resort. From then on, the little ones were also fed. At the end of their vacation, the tourists did not want to leave the small family without care. Especially since there was the risk that the mother could soon become pregnant again... They reached out to us for help, and we provided a trap through a helper of our association living nearby. Fortunately, we managed to secure the entire family. Our partner Paola immediately offered to take care of the mother cat and her kittens. When they arrived with Paola, both the mother and the kittens were in poor condition, but they have since recovered quite well. However, Mama Cara is still not entirely fit. She has a respiratory issue that has not yet been fully resolved. Therefore, she has not yet been spayed due to the high anesthesia risk. We also do not want to subject her to a trip to Germany at the moment. Cara is a very loving and approachable cat. In contrast to her kittens. The little ones were extremely shy initially, especially the two girls in the sibling group, and it is difficult to predict how they will develop further. This animal is not yet neutered/spayed.

About Cara

What life with Cara looks like

Cara is a adult cat waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
