Caramel

Mixed Breed · Male

Since November 2025, we have taken in Caramel. Unfortunately, it lost its mistress and its life at the shelter has been very complicated. It is clearly going through a period of mourning. It is very gentle with humans. It just seeks calm and human companionship of love. Despite all our efforts, whether with care or love, the attention of the animal caretakers who look after him daily, he is very often isolated since his arrival in the cattery. Caramel just wants to hide, whether in litter boxes, under cat trees. It doesn't even dare to go outside to enjoy the sun or grass to hide. It is the witness of its distress. Contrary to other cats we have taken in, who have adapted very well to life in the shelter, made many friends, him really staying in his corner, he suffers more than anything else from life in the shelter because of his depression. Caramel is very tired. It starts to trigger small illnesses that it could largely avoid if it were in a family. This makes it very vulnerable and we are extremely worried. In its eyes, one sees its sadness and distress. We cannot replace for it everything it lived with its mistress. That's why it is really important that it finds a family just for him, that he loves it. Ideally, it would find the peaceful daily life of a lone cat in a family. Caramel, it's our little grandpa and we would love very much for him to find a family. Adopt, don't buy Caramel. All of Caramel's care will be taken care of by the FBB. About Caramel

What life with Caramel looks like

Caramel is a small adult mixed breed cat waiting at Fondation Brigitte Bardot in Paris.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Caramel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Caramel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fondation Brigitte Bardot handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Caramel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Caramel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fondation Brigitte Bardot will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Caramel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Caramel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fondation Brigitte Bardot early rather than rehoming privately; they know Caramel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
