Caramelo

Husky · Male · Young · 1 year

Caramelo - a beautiful Husky mix, just one year old, has left the Spanish animal shelter and moved to a loving family. There, he grew into a great young male. His family has now decided to look for the right home for Caramelo once again, a decision that is far from easy for them. In the house, Caramelo shows his wonderfully affectionate and people-oriented side. He loves the closeness of his people, always wants to know where they are, and actively demands his cuddles. He is very friendly to people, but in his joy, he can also be very stormy and exuberant. His future owners should therefore be quite firm. We therefore do not see Caramelo in a home with smaller children. Caramelo is extremely smart, learns quickly and with enthusiasm, and tricks. As a clever young Husky mix, he "discusses" quite a bit when he has his own idea of things. Outdoors, however, a different side of Caramelo appears. Here, he quickly takes responsibility when he lacks clear guidance. The strong young dog knows how to use his physical strength and has already managed to break free. Especially dog encounters on a leash are currently a big challenge. If Caramelo meets other dogs outdoors, he reacts very strongly and is difficult to regulate in these situations. Dogs he knows are no problem. Here, people are needed who can safely assess such situations, remain calm and convey to him through clear, confident leadership that he does not have to regulate the situation himself. His hunting instinct is also clearly pronounced. Caramelo has already killed game and is therefore now responsibly led with a muzzle. We want to openly mention this point, because it is important to know what you are getting into for his future home. Therefore, we are really looking for very experienced dog owners, ideally already Husky-experienced people, who can safely lead such a young, intelligent and powerful dog. People who give him orientation with calmness, consistency, structure and confidence and show him that he can rely on his human outside. He is clever, eager to learn and brings an incredible amount of potential. But also some topics that need to be worked on together. He does not need harshness, but people who know what they are doing, set clear boundaries and at the same time give him security and reliability. If you see Caramelo not just because of his beautiful appearance, but are in the mood for a strong-willed, clever young dog and can give him the leadership he needs, you will get a very people-oriented, affectionate and very special companion by your side. If you are seriously interested, please contact his responsible mediator. Here is Caramelo's video

About Caramelo

What life with Caramelo looks like

Caramelo is a large young adult husky dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Caramelo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Caramelo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Caramelo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Caramelo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Caramelo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Caramelo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Caramelo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
