Carlito und Berta (externe Vermittlungshilfe)

European Shorthair · Female · Kitten · 7 months

Carlito and Berta are two siblings who have grown up with a garden, so I would be thrilled if they could continue to do so. However, a large balcony would also be fine. I absolutely want to give them up together, as they are very close and love to cuddle. Carlito loves children and has regularly played with the 3-year-old neighbor girl. They are generally well socialized, sharing their garden with other cats and people daily. They have also met dogs before, but it would definitely be an adjustment for them. They both love to cuddle and snuggle. They often sleep in bed with me, sometimes in my arms. Carlito doesn't like to be picked up. I think this is due to his chronic cold and the fact that he has received medication many times. Otherwise, he is a sweet and very friendly patient cat. Berta is very affectionate and likes to snuggle up to me. She also likes to talk and expresses herself when she wants something. Carlito is almost 7 months old and an only child; his sister from the second litter is now 14 weeks old. I adopted their mothers from Romania last year. Unfortunately, the association didn't tell me that they had the Calicivirus. I only found out when they were already pregnant. Both mothers have since been spayed. Carlito had pneumonia at three or four weeks and has already had two antibiotic treatments. He is now fit, but has been suffering from a constant cold since then. So far, all treatment methods have not helped, and he urgently needs an immunotherapy, which I unfortunately cannot afford. The little one also suffers from a cold, but is otherwise fit, normally developed, and full of energy. Another problem is that one of my cats has been quite hostile towards the two since her spaying and feels extremely uncomfortable at home. This is also why it is not possible for me to keep them.

About Carlito und Berta (externe Vermittlungshilfe)

What life with Carlito und Berta (externe Vermittlungshilfe) looks like

Carlito und Berta (externe Vermittlungshilfe) is a large puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Kolner Tierschutzverein in Köln.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carlito und Berta (externe Vermittlungshilfe), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carlito und Berta (externe Vermittlungshilfe)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kolner Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carlito und Berta (externe Vermittlungshilfe) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carlito und Berta (externe Vermittlungshilfe) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kolner Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carlito und Berta (externe Vermittlungshilfe) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carlito und Berta (externe Vermittlungshilfe) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kolner Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carlito und Berta (externe Vermittlungshilfe) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
