Carlos

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Carlos, a one-year-old male dog, is looking for a loving home. He was found in a basement, chained and without food or water, by an older couple who heard his cries. The authorities were informed and the dog was rescued and handed over to the MASA team. Initially shy and fearful, Carlos has quickly overcome his fear and is now friendly and grateful for attention and petting. He is still a bit shy but very approachable. We are sure he will soon discover the power and joie de vivre he should have as a young dog. We wish Carlos a loving home with empathetic people who want to give him a beautiful, safe life. His compatibility with other dogs and cats is not yet known, as he is still new to the shelter. If he has settled in a bit more, both can be tested if needed. Have you fallen in love with "cellar child" Carlos and want to show him the sunny side of life? Then please contact us. Please read the information on our website about the placement process and everything about dogs. We have prepared detailed information for all areas. Please note the "self-disclosure" field below and send it to us filled out first. After that, Carlos's mediator will also be happy to contact you by phone. Like all our dogs, Carlos travels with an EU pet passport and Traces papers. He is then neutered, fully vaccinated, freshly dewormed, treated with a spot-on against ectoparasites, tested for Giardia and possibly freshly treated, with a blood test with organ values and tests for the diseases that occur in Hungary. In addition, all dogs travel with a suitable safety harness and a GPS tracker including 1 year premium subscription. Please click on the "self-disclosure" link so that the PDF file opens. Depending on the browser, the file opens directly on the screen or must be clicked again at the bottom of the screen after it has been downloaded. You can fill in the fields of the file without additional programs and then click with the right mouse button in the document and select the option "save as". Please select the save location, e.g. the "Desktop" of your computer. The file name "self-disclosure_Canifair_" is predefined. Please add your family name after the last "_" so that we can better assign the file. Please remember to enter the dog's name in the first field at the top. If you now send an email to the mediator mentioned in the ad, please attach the saved self-disclosure. This gives us a first impression and makes the initial contact easier and faster. Your data will not be passed on to third parties and will only be used in the context of a dog inquiry or the requested adoption.

About Carlos

What life with Carlos looks like

Carlos is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Canifair e.V. in Kaarst.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carlos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carlos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Canifair e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carlos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carlos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Canifair e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carlos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carlos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Canifair e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carlos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
