Carolino

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 18 years

Every cat that arrives at our animal shelter brings with it a story of difficulties, misunderstandings, or, too often, genuine suffering. Our mission is to offer protection to those who have not had it and to promote a culture of respect, responsibility, and sterilization, because only in this way can we prevent abandonments and situations that degenerate into conflicts or mistreatment. Among our guests is Carolino, a kitty who arrived from Siena with a painful past. For a period, he lived outside a boy's home who fed him and tried to take care of him as best he could. Carolino lived near the boy's residence, but he was not well-accepted by everyone. Some neighbors did not want him around, and unfortunately, there were episodes of violence: Carolino was beaten, suffering mistreatment that made him wary and fearful. The boy who cared for him, to avoid further problems with the neighborhood and to protect him from other aggressions, chose with great sense of responsibility to bring him to us. It was a difficult but necessary decision to ensure Carolino's safety and peace. Today, Carolino is at the animal shelter, where he is slowly learning that not all hands are harmful. He needs time, patience, and a stable environment that respects his recovery timeline. For this reason, at the moment, we are looking for a distant adoption for him. We want to avoid further changes until he is ready to face a new path. Supporting Carolino from a distance means helping us cover veterinary expenses, food, and everything needed to restore his trust and peace. On our website, you can find the section dedicated to the ways to participate. With your help, Carolino can finally leave behind his fear and live a protected and respected life. About Carolino

What life with Carolino looks like

Carolino is a small senior mixed breed cat waiting at Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali in Italy.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carolino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carolino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carolino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carolino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carolino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carolino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carolino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
